Make sure any displays are disconnected before removing the card, and that there aren't any cables attached from the power supply. Of course there is a quick and dirty fix to this problem - if you are happy with youur mate's card, just do a swap ! also make sure that it is in the right mode ect... If you're not familiar with it, just make sure you pick the video drivers to clean. check over here

If you have proved what is working, by substitution, then you are either going to have to use 'on-board' graphics or buy a new card. Stick the card in the computer after that , if its still not responding plung the HDMI back into the mobo for integrated graphics and install the drivers with the card Install it using the CD that came with it, or go online and install the drivers.
