The only completely stable configuration (giving no memtest errors or game crashes) is the old RAM alone in either DIMM socket. To describe the freeze: everything on the screen doesn't move, it's not possible to do anything and I've tried to wait. I've run memtest on both sticks of RAM together as well as each stick independently for about 2 hours each.
However it would freeze at test 10 which is (bit fade test, 2 patterns, 1 CPU). I attempted to reinstall windows xp, but it locked up about 3/4 of the way through (after it got to "installing devices").
